Engineering Intern: Shop

Piasecki Steel Construction Corp

What I Did

As a shop intern at Piasecki Steel, I took on key responsibilities, transforming engineering drawings into meticulously crafted templates to ensure that steel components were machined with absolute precision. I also stepped into a leadership role, overseeing the fabrication of a ladder and ladder cage—both now in use to protect workers during vital bridge repairs across New York and the surrounding regions.

This experience not only sharpened my technical skills in machining and fabrication but also reinforced the importance of precision in engineering. I gained valuable leadership experience, learning how to guide a team through complex projects, and developed a deeper appreciation for how engineering solutions directly contribute to safety in the field. It highlighted the crucial balance between accuracy, craftsmanship, and the real-world impact of engineering decisions on the well-being of others.
